Why Use SafeKit to Scan QR Codes?
Most QR code scanners require a smartphone camera or force you to install an app. SafeKit's online QR scanner works in any web browser — Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge — on desktops, laptops, tablets, and phones. When you get a QR code in a screenshot or email attachment, you no longer need to take out your phone to scan it.
Unlike cloud-based tools, SafeKit processes your image entirely in JavaScript inside your browser tab. The image pixel data is passed to the jsQR decoding library locally — nothing is transmitted over the internet. This means your QR codes (which might contain passwords, private links, or contact details) stay completely private.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I scan a QR code from a screenshot on my computer?+
Take a screenshot of the QR code, then drag and drop the screenshot file into the scanner above. SafeKit will instantly decode it without any app or additional software.
Can I use this QR scanner on my iPhone or Android?+
Yes. SafeKit works in mobile browsers. Tap "Start Camera Scan" to use your phone's rear camera for live scanning, or upload an image from your photo library.
What if no QR code is found in my image?+
Ensure the QR code is fully visible, not cropped, and the image is reasonably sharp. Try a higher resolution version. Heavily compressed JPEG images sometimes lose QR code detail.
Is there a file size limit?+
There is no enforced server-side limit since files are processed locally. Very large images (over 20MB) may take a moment to process depending on your device.
Can I scan multiple QR codes from one image?+
The current version detects and decodes the first QR code found in the image. If you need to scan QR codes from multiple images, scan them one at a time.
